There are some documents that are a good idea to carry copies of in different emergency bags.
When bugging out, it makes sense to have copies of many important documents simply because you do not know when or if you would be returning.
But what about a get home bag? This type of bag is meant to simply get you from work or wherever you may be, to your home. And home or somewhere around your home is where the majority of your important documentation is going to be.
For many people the distance between work and home is going to be minimal. But for others it is going to be much greater.
Either way, if you are using your get home bag then there is an emergency of some kind going on. Depending on the emergency there could be a need to have certain types of documents on you.

Now, several of the following items are ones that most people probably already carry on their person all of the time. But having backup copies in a get home bag wouldn’t hurt.
Driver’s license or ID
This one is a given as almost everyone has an ID of some sort that they carry at all times. But in the chaos of an emergency there is a chance of this becoming lost.
Having a copy of this in your get home bag would help in not only proving who you are but proving residency.
During a crisis, travel restrictions or security checkpoints could be put in place. You do not want to be stuck behind the lines trying to get home simply because you cannot prove where you live.
Firearm Permit
Some states require permits or licenses for owning and carrying a firearm. Should you live in one of these areas and a firearm is a part of your get home bag, then this type of documentation will obviously be needed.
Vehicle Information
If you are stopped by authorities while operating your vehicle then most documentation relating to the vehicle is already inside.
But what if your car is stolen?
It is a sad but true fact that emergencies, especially large scale ones, provide ripe opportunities for criminal activity.
Having copies of vehicle related documents in a get home bag may help speed along the process of proving ownership and having the vehicle returned.
Emergency Contacts
I always recommend adding emergency contacts to a survival kit or bag.
We are so dependent on our phones these days that we no longer have to memorize phone numbers or addresses.
But all sorts of things can happen during an emergency that could affect that information being accessed. The phone could be broken, lost, stolen, or simply run out of battery power.
This is why it is a good idea for a physical list of emergency contacts to be added to your get home bag.
